Milk bottle project

Milk bottle homework project
For the last week Whetu has been doing a milk bottle homework project. My idea is to do the Titanic sinking but only showing half of the boat. I also would like to make it 3D so it is not just like a piece of drawing.

I have not started it but I have got the materials for the project and I also have done some drawing on what it is supposed to look like and what I would like it to look like.

For our project we can use as many milk bottles as we would like 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 100 the list goes on. You can cut your milk bottles or you can leave it how it is and add changes.

The Kaikoura earthquake

The Kaikoura earthquake
On the 14th of November there was an earthquake at 12.02 pm and it was a 7.8 magnitude earthquake it destroyed lots of power lines, roads and houses.
But we are still lucky because 5 years ago the Christchurch earthquake killed 185 people but this one killed 2 people one had a heart ‘attack then the other one was crushed by a building.
After the earthquake there were more than 250 aftershocks occurring over the whole of New Zealand. When the earthquake occurred I thought it was just the cats fighting and smashing into the walls and my door, but I was too tired to find out so I just went back to sleep.
Thousands of crayfish and shellfish have been destroyed and their homes have also been destroyed by the earthquake, because the seabed has been raised by 2 whole metres. Down below is a picture of the seabed being raised by 2 metres.

Labour Day

Labour Day

On the fourth Monday in October is Labour day it is a public holiday. The first official Labour day was celebrated on the second Wednesday in October in the 1900. We celebrate Labour day because in the 19th century New Zealand tried to claim the right for an 8 hour working day. In 1840 a carpenter called Samuel Parnell fought for this right and won. What did I do during Labour weekend I don’t know what to say so I had fun. In the weekend my cousin Elijah came and my uncle and aunty came we played with the cars mostly and for dinner we had lamb roast and literally the best ribs I have ever tasted. And we watched the All Blacks get some ridiculous tries. THE END

Learning in the making conference

Learning in the making conference

On Friday it was Ngatea Primary Schools 3rd learning in the making conference. My favourite workshop would have been hot dog pasta because you got to eat  it and I got taught  how to make it so I can make it whenever I want. I learnt some new drum skills and how to do some beats on the drums. Also in first aid I learnt how to do the figure of 8 and how to put somebodys arm in a sling. Lastly I did electronics and we made a l.e.d light light up. Then we played games of tag, duck, duck,       goose and even wink murderer.

Holiday recount of Rainbow End

Holiday recount of Rainbow End       h
In the holidays my family went to Rainbows end and we got to go on all the rides. But since it was on a timetable there were different things on at different  times so you could not just hop on a ride like you normally would. My favourite ride would of been the stratosfear or going in the motion master but in the stratosfear I could not go the whole way round because I was too short to so I just swung back and forth and it was fun. And for the motion master it felt like you were going down a hydra slide and it broke and you went to another dimension. And there were pirates fighting and sea snakes and massive octopuses then at the end you ended back where you were  when you started. This was a fun but annoying ride I went on, the bumper boats it was annoying because I got a really wet bum and my pants were wet but otherwise it was fantastic. This is a ride I forgot to mention in my favourites it's the (drum roll) rollercoaster. I thought this was really cool because you get to go upside down and really fast down and it feels like you're floating around then you stop. And that is the end of my recount goodbye.

Term 3 Reflection

What have you enjoyed the most this term?
  • Doing blog posts because there were some cool things we had to write about like the Olympics one.
  • Singing because their have been some cool songs that I did not know before.
  • Book club because you get to read books that you have not read before.
  • Doing cross country because I made it to Hauraki Plains and I made it to Thames Valley cross country.
  • I liked doing the block run because you got timed to see how fast you could run.
What has been challenging this term?
  • Book club because we have to come up with lots of questions.
  • Blog post because there were also some really hard blogs we had to do.
  • Doing some follow up for maths  because there were some really hard questions.
What are you looking forward to next term?
Finishing off Impact and doing the filming because it is going to be really fun. I like doing athletics because sprints is what I am really good at and I want to be a sprinter when I am older.

Impact - Mid way reflection

.

This term we have been doing impact I am in the documentary group and we are going to make a video with information about when you start school. We are at doing the script so far and are soon going to be on filming. For the survey we sent it out to all the new students and they had to tell us if they were like nervous, scared or any other things. We have accomplished a survey,  some questions and half of a script . Our next steps are finishing the script and having it edited and  filming the video. I am enjoying writing the script and I am looking forward to filming. There is so far nothing that I am not enjoying.

Cross country

Cross country
In cross country this year I came 5th nearly 4th but Jake bet me which was quite annoying because I was about 20 cm behind him. But it does not bother me because I always have next year to practise and beat him and try to come first. How I felt after was really good because all the nervousness had been let out and I had tried my hardest.  I also felt quite good because I made it to HPC and I put every ounce of strength to come my place. I think my training really helped because I was more used to long distance and pacing myself and not just sprinting. For me going to HP is quite a big thing because I have never went to a HP cross country before. I am a bit nervous but also quite confident about going.

My speech

This year my speech is about Usain bolt

This year I choose my topic on Usain bolt.Because it is the olympics and he is a Olympic star. And because he has not always been the best but he had to train extra extra hard to be in the top leagues and make it into the olympics.

This time when I did my speech topic it has quite hard to research since there were lots of facts and there were heaps of the same facts so they were not all different so you had to go back and forth from the doc and the website. And there were really good facts and okay facts so you had to pick which were the best facts to put on the doc was.

Did I change my topic
Yes I did change my topic a little bit because I was doing the olympics and Usain bolt but there was to many facts to do both so I really had to change.

Am I nervous about presenting it.
No not really because I am practising at home and getting all the pronunciations correct.

The hardest bit.
The hardest bit of my speech I would say would be the research.

My goal reflections

Maths

To get to purple MDR and red AWS.
How am I going to achieve this goal.
I think to achieve this goal I will have to work hard and do extra work at home not only at school at school and also booking into more conferences to make sure i get all of my things correct.

Literacy
My english goals are to get all my punctuation and grammar correct and to use more similes and metaphors to make my writing more creative and interesting.
How am I going to achieve this goal.
To achieve this goal I will have to do more free writing and make it really good and make it always has capital letters and metaphors to make

Reading

My reading goal would be to be at 11 and 12 year old standard.
I think to achieve this goal I will have to read a wider range of books and read both nonfiction and fiction books. Also I think I will have to make sure I know what i'm understanding what I am  reading and just not reading words.

Favorite  part

My favorite part of this year has been Idrive I would say i drive because you got to diffrent things like cooking, board games etc I also liked it because you got to see what other people like and about what you have in common with them.

What I am looking forward to this term.

This term I am looking forward to doing the picnic and seeing who gets to wild card and who doesn’t. The thing that I probably am most looking forward to doing is Impact because we are going to make a documentary/ video and it is going to be really fun.

Olympics

Olympics
This year the Olympics are being held in Rio Brazil. There are going to be 207 Nations competing  and there are 306 events and 28 sports. These are the sports that are not that popular in NZ are Wrestling, Taekwondo,Tennis,Triathlon and Weightlifting.

This year I am looking forward to watch the running/  Usain bolt I also want to see if anybody breaks a world record during the time of the Olympics. In the Olympics I would like to see if Usain bolt gets beaten by Justin Gatlin in a sprint or if somebody else beats Usain bolt - there have been some really close times. Another thing about why I want to watch is because it only happens every 4 years so it quite a big thing.

Holiday recount

In the holidays
By Jack

In the holidays My uncle Shaun And aunt Julia and their son Eli came over to my house. First me and Eli played tackle were if we had the ball he would tackle us and if he had the ball he would tackle us. And when we were playing he would not let you get up so if you sat up he would body slam you. So you had to get up really fast and side step him or he will just get you down again. Which was really fun and the next day. It was raining like a hailstorm and my uncle said we had to make a boat so we don’t die so we made a boat out of blankets and pillows. And Eli was the captain and driving the ship. It was really fun!! Until we had to pack it all up and  after we packed all the blankets up we were playing soccer because Eli had brought a ball with him that was inflatable. But since there was lots of precious things in the living room we had to go in the hallway where there was only paintings and pieces of art up on the walls. When we were playing soccer Eli was in like no team he would just score in the goal he wanted to. Which was also quite annoying so you would be like time to chill out it is on their side then he would turn around and score the goal.

Then uncle Shaun as looking through this book and it said what animal you are like if you were born in 2007 like me you were a fire pig. And my cousin is a water snake and my uncle is a water pig as well. And there were others but I can not tell you all of them as I have forgotten them. Then when it was the last day we had pancakes and I had 11 pancakes !!!

Gangsta granny blog post

Gangsta granny:

This book is about a boy called Ben, he does not like going to his grannys house. Because she just feeds him cabbage meals and mostly cabbage soup, and they just play scrabble and her T.V has been broken since the 1980s. One day he called his parents to come and pick him up but his parents disapprove. And he thinks his granny heard since he does not hear snoring. The next morning his granny makes him some eggs which he also does not like and he throws it out the window. Then he goes into the cupboard and goes into the biscuit tin where he knows there will be some biscuits. But to his surprise there's jewels bunched up together in the tin. When his parents pick him up he asks to go to her house the next day ( because he was curious about the jewels) but  to his  surprise his granny was going out.

I would recommend this book to kids around my age, as it is funny and serious at times.I also like this book because it is a good read. I would reccomend this a 10 out of 10.

Plus
Minus
Interesting
This is my plus I enjoyed when you had to make sort of like a parachute so the egg would not break. My team made a parachute and but he egg in a little pouch so it would not break. In the end ours did not break and only the crazy kiwis and the wonders of the world egg broke.

And I liked it where you had to make a boat and put a  little mini figure chicken and a cricket ball. And it has to float by itself. For this challenge I think you had to use connecting. Because you had to connect with the people you were working with.

This is probably my best plus. I liked this one because you had to feel and try and smell the things. I got 1 and a half points  for my team. So I really liked it.
This week I have not had a minus so it has gone really well.
I found doing the balloon challenge really interesting since you had to tape the balloons together. Without it being taped to the ground. My group found it quite hard to do.And for this challenge I think you had to use resilience because it would keep on breaking.

I found noughts and crosses really interesting.Because you had to run up and down the concrete putting the bibs on the place you wanted. Trying to get three in a row.

I also found it quite interesting how we came up with the team name. Crazy Minds was our team name

Ice skating

     Ice skating
I went ice skating on Thursday on the 9/6/2016 I really liked it. At first it was harder then it got easier I went at 12 to 1 pm. I was better than quite a lot of kids since I have roller blades. So I had already practised more than the other kids had.

I liked how there was big inflatable sides that you could  hold onto it you were just learning and it was okay if you just bumped into them it would be okay. When you were ice skating  you are not supposed to lift your feet off the ground. So you just pushed yourself instead of walking.

Jake and I were racing a lot and falling over a lot, I would literally  fall over every 2 seconds. And when you fell over you had to get up as fast as you could that was okay because I fell over a lot. But if one of the ice skates went over your hand your hand would not be there and it would be messy.

Art reflection

Art reflection
This term  for art we did string art and I did the flash symbol. Because he is my favourite superhero and I painted the background red because we could not string it. I have not finished because it kept on  falling off the nails so it was pretty hard. But I think it will come out brilliant in the end with the flash symbol yellow then the circle black and the background red. I think I should be able to finish it on Wednesday and be able to bring it home if we will bring them home this week.

The Queens birthday

The Queen's birthday
My plans for the long weekend is to invite my cousins over for a double sleepover. The Queen's birthday is on April the 21st. Queen Elizabeth became queen in 1947 and was crowned in 1952. She is currently 90 years old. Did you know? That New Zealand celebrates the Queen's birthday on Monday the first of June instead of the 21st of april? As a public holiday we can celebrate over the long weekend her birthday. But in other countries they would celebrate on different days like some might do it on the first Saturday of June and other countries might celebrate it on other days.

Hockey

                 Hockey!!!

In the weekend I played hockey for two teams the Ngatea Tigers which is not my team but. The Ngatea Jaguars which was my team.In the game  we lost in the Ngatea Tigers against TK 2 nil but it was a close call for some and I fell over a lot saving it from getting it in circle so they could not get a goal. Then in the second game we won 3 nil two goals by Logan and one by Cruz. They nearly got a few goals but our pro goalie Ethan Valois was there to save the day. But  when the ones nearly got  through he said that scared the living daylight out of me. Then when the ball got hit I was about to get it when I slipped and did the splits getting the ball and hitting it down the turf it hurt though. When I was doing the splits and hitting the ball because my stick had got ground shock and it went through my body.

      PlUS
     MINUS
 INTERESTING
I liked Idrive because you could like drive your way through want you want to do not just with your best friend and what they are doing.
Then I liked playing with the blocks and making towers then making them fall down again.
There was not enough large domino for us to make a really big tower that would actually stay for more than about 20 seconds. And the towers to get to table so then we could connect the tower with the table.
I found it interesting watching the blocks and all the large domino's go down the steps as some did but some did not. Then all the angles you had to have them on to make them go around in circles and down steps.

Celebrating my learning

             Celebrating my learning
This year I am in Whetu moved from Whenua as a year 4 going to year 5. From there was some really big jumps like having deadlines much earlier so that was a big jump but we got rewarded for what we did. Like celebration but I am really looking forward to doing the movie day but being in Whetu. Has made me  more pro active like doing what the timetable says and not having the teachers say when it is time for a meeting. Then if we did not do our work we had to do it in our own time. Which I did not want to do!!! But the thing I am most proud of is probably doing my mother's day poem. Man it was hard but I got it done because I did it a tiny bit during lunch.

Riding the blue steel

On Sunday I got the chance to ride on a speedboat called Blue Steel. When we first arrived Brad went super fast doing laps of the Netherton cut to get us ready for the fun ahead. We went so fast we were making waves in the water. But of course we needed  our life jackets. Unfortunately there were too many people for the life jackets to go round. So then when it was Boston's turn to get of the boat he just went on the bonnet of the boat and lay down there. After we did a few more laps it was Michael's  turn to try riding the sea biscuit by getting towed by Blue Steel. On the second lap we hit a wave and he did like a forward flip landing in the water. Then we towed him back and it was my turn to go on the sea biscuit. At first I was a bit nervous. Once I got on the sea biscuit I started to feel more and more confident. I did not fall off. Though I did slide half off and hit my head quite a few times. No matter the pain this was awesome fun. It was then Brad’s turn he went surfing behind Blue Steel and got the record for most fall off's. He fell off about 5 or 6 times until we watched him land his first jump over the waves. Up until then he had fallen off every time he tried to do a jump so it was real cool to see him actually land a jump. Boston wanted to do a surf but he was not allowed because we had to go since we had been on it for about 2 hours. Because we came at 3 and left at about  530 ish so yeah and that is the end of that.

My book rewiew

Book name: Matilda
Matilda is a book about a girl who knows how to read adult books. And can do all her time tables by the age of 4. The dad said she was naughty and then pulled some pranks on him but he did not know it was her. When she went to school she learnt a superpower that she could pick up things without touching it.

The teacher is really poor.  Mrs Trunchbull  hurls somebody like a javelin just because she had some pigtails in her hair.

I would say it is a good book and I think it the age should be about 5 years old and up.

The flag debate

  The Flag Debate
I personally wanted the new flag because it represented us and  how it had the silver fern on it. To the other one I know people died under the flag but the Australian one is basically the exact same one we have. But the one of the worst things is that John Key  spent $23 million dollars choosing them and making them but we ended up having the old one. But I am quite happy that they chose that one because my grandfather and other people's granddad and great grandfathers died for it. So I was still quite happy that they kept the old flag instead of the new one. But one of the last things is that the government spent $23 million dollars on it but instead he could of spent the money on other things. Like money to make a cure for cancer all these other stuff so grrr you Government.

How do people celebrate Easter

How do people celebrate Easter
On March 27th on Sunday known as Easter Sunday some people celebrate and others do not celebrate it.  As for my family we celebrate it.

Easter will always fall between March 22nd and April the 25Th.
Nearly 90 million Easter bunnies are made every single Easter!!!!

Did you know that the word Easter comes from the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring called ‘Eostroe’. She symbolized the hare and the egg.

And not everyone celebrates Easter because they do not believe in Jesus Christ.

Eggs are a symbol of new birth and spring a lot of people will give chocolate eggs as gifts for Easter.  Years ago people would give each other real eggs which were painted all sorts of different colours.

Good Friday is about the day Jesus was put on the cross and when he died.  Easter Sunday is about when Jesus rose from the dead and came back to life. On hot cross buns the line represents the cross Jesus was nailed to.

My family celebrate Easter when the Easter Bunny comes and gives the clues to dad and then at the end we find the eggs and we eat hot cross buns.

All about me

                                      To Mrs lindsay

I was born in Auckland as the second child Michael 3 years older than me. I lived in Chatswood down the street called Ravenstone our house was a two story house painted white.  I went to Chelsea primary school
for 2 years and we lived in Chatswood for three years. Before I went school I went to a kindy that was right by our school field and with my friend at kindy we used to play fight. I liked it up in Auckland how me and mike could just walk to the mall and get toys and go to get food. then know I think I will tell you about school. when I first started. I had a buddy called luca how was my first friend at school and he is still my friend know. when I was a year one I was in a class by  the sandpit and was in class 18 when I was a year 2 I was In two classes one after morning tea and one in the morning and we did swimming in the school pool. know I am going to tell you about my house at my house we lived by a forest and had bridge going to our tree-house it had a platform then pieces of wood  connected to the tree. To go to the tree-house it was quite tall so you would not hit your your head.   know I am going to talk about the moving start off It started when my dad said a year before I want to live in the country. Then it all started when dad and mum were talking about it and making arrangements about a month we chose the house. We had a massive going party when my friends brother and my cousins were having this brain freeze competition. and I won some and lost some. We had a lot of fun!!! We were moving the things in the moving truck we had to go around the house and there was these outside rooms that me and mike would have when we moved in  when we came in it  was really like foggy since they hadn't opened the room for about a year or two  then when we went back in the car we knew that was the house. We were going to buy when we brought it my dad was painting my room blue and the were turning one of the shed  into the gym/ bar/office  when my dad had finished doing the painting of the room he was vanishing the floor  when we were done me and mike moved in And there was like a playhouse outside as well  that was painted green but after about 2 years of living here we have painted it and are putting a slide on it. And with a playing bit out back that we call the cricket pitch but we have two forests by our house 1 called magpie hills because all the magpies go there one my dad shot a magpie in the wing. What does it do swoop down into hills so that is why we call it that. the next forest we just call it a forest but in the forest  we went thru with me and mike having a sickle dad having a hatchet and we cut down tall weeds and small overgrown branches and saw an owl which was surprising since it was around midday and there was a tree with a really thick trunk. and by our house we had a tree witch was massive and would of fell on our house if we did not cut it down. It was awesome to see the tree fall down and as it clumped making marks in the ground. I liked it but it had three thick branches that were like the size of a normal tree each one. I liked it was actually quite fun watching he had a scooper and the man had to sit in at times.when he was chaining the tree to make it fall down. know I am going to tell you about chelsea it had a massive slide. like the big blue just longer and it was not twirly. and there was a playground for year threes and above but i was not aloud since i was a year 2  but after school when your parent was watching you could I remember. that me and mike used to walk home normally every day unless it was bad weather. It was fun walking home sometimes because we could run down the hill. Know last of all i am going to tell you what i enjoy doing in and out of school. I like reading most of all for school and writing than maths. And out of school I like doing sports like cricket, rugby and more and I like running and bouncing on the tramp at home. with also going on farm walks and going on bikes. But doing jumps is not my cup of tea because last time I did like a wheelie in the air and flipped in the air over the handlebars landing with the bike behind me. It was really painful but I did not cry. That's the story of me

School swimming sports

When our school went to swimming sports we got to choose the races we were in. For freestyle I went In champion ship and just came 3rd out of 3 people but it was a close call. For breast stroke  I went  for non championship  and got third just.  I made It to Hauraki Plains for freestyle one length at Hauraki Plains I came 3rd out of 4 people but  was happy because I had tried my hardest to win it. Orewa came last and Kapui came 1st. better luck next year!!!
